After immigrating from Peru in 1997, Victor Cordova experienced a life-changing conversion to Catholicism following a serious illness in 2008. During that difficult period, reading the Gospels deeply transformed his heart.

Again and again, Christ’s words about helping the poor stood out:

“There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for a friend.”

That experience inspired the beginning of a small outreach mission called Amar es Compartir (“To Love is to Share”).

Where It Started

The mission first focused on children in vulnerable communities in Peru.

During visits back to Peru, small community gatherings called chocolatadas were organized — events where children would receive hot chocolate, toys, food, and care during Christmas celebrations.

At first, these gatherings were organized personally and on a small scale. Later, together with a missionary group called Jornada de Vida Cristiana, the outreach expanded to support more families in need.

What started with about 30 children slowly grew into something bigger.

Over time, the mission expanded to include:

• Food packages

• Clothing donations

• Support for struggling families

• Community care initiatives

• Assistance for vulnerable households

Rather than offering one-time help, the mission focused on truly knowing people — listening to their stories, understanding their needs, and walking alongside them.

Growing the Mission

After moving to Burlington, Ontario, the generosity of the local community made it possible to dream bigger.

Support from donors and community members helped launch larger fundraising efforts for projects in Peru, especially in areas where local dioceses and communities often lack sufficient resources.

2023 — Community Rectory Project

A (the first event Talent night for peru ) successful fundraising event helped support the construction of a parish rectory/secretary space serving the local community.

2025 — Funeral Wake Space

Funds were raised to help build a space where families could gather to mourn loved ones with dignity. In many communities, families do not have adequate space in their homes to hold funeral gatherings.

2026 — Soup Kitchen Project Phase 1

Building Hope is now working toward constructing a permanent soup kitchen facility to serve families in need with regular meals and community support.

This mission is about more than charity.

It is about reminding people that they are seen, valued, loved, and not forgotten.

The goal is not only to provide material support, but also to bring the love of Christ through personal connection, compassion, and community.
